Green moong dal fry recipe

green-moong-dal           Hope you all had a great Diwali celebrations and back to Blogging..:))This recipe I had in my friend's house...we liked it very much,a healthy and tasty dish, which is very easy to make also.. So Green gram dal fry has now become a common side dish at home. Its really healthy and rich without any fatty items like cream, milk or butter!

Green moong dal fry recipe

Recipe Cuisine : Indian   |   Recipe Category :  Lunch
Prep Time: 15  mins + (overnight soak)   |  Cook time: 25mins    Serves: 4

Ingredients

Whole green gram dal - 3/4 cup

Onion - 1

Tomato - 2

Ginger garlic paste(ready-made) - 1 tsp

Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp

Red chillie powder - 1/2 tsp

Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp

Dhaniya powder - 1 tsp

Ghee/ Oil - 1 tblsp

Jeera - 1 tsp

Salt - As needed


Method

  1. Soak dal to approx 4-6 hours and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles.Chop onions and tomatoes finely.

  2. Heat a heavy bottomed vessel with ghee/oil and  splutter jeera. After spluttering,add onions and fry for to min till translucent and add ginger garlic paste and fry till fragrant. 1-green-moong-dal
  3. Add chopped tomatoes along with salt,fry till tomatoes turns mushy and add all the powders. 2-green-moong-dal
  4. Fry for a minute. Then add cooked dal.3-green-moong-dal
  5. Add enough water (1 & 1/2 cups) and cook in low flame for 5-8 minutes,till it becomes a thick.4-green-moong-dal
                Top with butter or fresh cream and serve with any pulavs or Plain rice or roti /chappati

  23. Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog, Raks! I quickly checked your blog and everything looks so good! I love whole moong and this curry looks delicious. I have to try your gobi paratha. When Itry to stuff a roti, I always have problem. Will try your way with 2 rotis and stuffing in between. May work better for me

  24. Nice entry for the event Raji. Looks delicious. Sorry for my late comment. Kavin became sick after diwali. The smoke from the fireworks triggered his asthma and we had a very tough week. Still going thru it. Hope he will be better soon.

  26. I love this green dal because it is healthy. I temper with mustard seeds, curry leaves and hing. Then I add cooked dal. Then I add to it, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt, pinch of garam masala, pinch of daniya masala and cook when it is cooked I garnish it with fresh grated coconut. If I need curry, separately I add butter milk (MOR)and cook for 2 minutes. Enjoy! have it with chapati or with rice.

  31. I love this recipe. I didn't know what to do with the nutritious sabut mung, till I tried your recipe. My American husband also loves this one. He's very picky on dals. The only difference when I cook is that I boil the mung along with prepared masala.

    Please share if you have a recipe for split mung as well.

    1. You can make dal fry or dal tadka with split moong (de husked though) or even moong dal kichdi. Everything under my recipe index. please refer. Also check my dal pakwan and dal baati for different styles of cooking dal.
