PARUPPU PODI

              Its so simple to make,yet tasty than the store bought ones,so do try next time then tell me which one you like the best!!

Ingredients:

Toor dal/thuvaram paruppu 1 cup
Red chilli 2-3 nos
Black pepper whole 1 tsp
Garlic 5-6 flakes
Salt,oil for roasting as needed

Method:

  1. Roast red chillies and toor dal till toor dal turns golden brown.
    After roasting
  2. Cool down and grind it with salt to coarse powder.
  3. Crush coarsely, pepper and garlic in a spice crusher.
  4. Add it to the mixer and use inch/juice option to mix it well in the podi/powder.
    Add crushed pepper and garlic
  5. The other option is add whole pepper and garlic flakes to in the beginning itself to skip 3rd and 4th steps.
  6. Store in an air tight container and use when needed.Mix in rice with sesame oil and enjoy!!

Note:

  • My mom adds pepper and garlic without roasting at the last stage,says that enhances the flavor of the podi!!

Love paruppu podi, but don't make it with garlic. Next time will defintely try adding it. Looks so nice.

Wow...this is one podi which i never miss to get from India.Infact this time,my baggage was over weight and i ensured my mom couriered it to me.Now i feel guilty,this is so easy to make and i shud make it myself,thanks for the recipe.

Nothing like home made paruppu podi..V and kids wud write off their properties for this ;)
I make paruppu thuvayal this way, Raks..
but recently MIL taught me a simpler version od making paruppo podi(earlier we too used to do like what you have mentioned here)with pottukadalai, poondu and milagai.. req no roasting ..yet very flavourful..

yeah, I did get to see your poondu kuzhambu before posting mine..(i have this very bad habit of googling the recipes before I post) ;)
