I have baked this cake a year before and this is the second time I am baking this. This was my first ever cake bake, thanks to Prathiba(prathy) who motivated me in baking…My first bake itself was a success and I was very happy about that and gave me a lot of confidence in baking… Very simple and easy bake,do try comes out soft and flavourful !

This time I replaced the butter with oil and baked in very small quantity. My kiddo was very excited while baking the cake,as he loves orange flavour ‘anything’
. And when he tasted he also said, the cake was delicious! What else I need more than that…
.This time to look pretty in the pictures,I tried decorating with the ready-made icing I bought, came out pretty, but the taste was not so pleasing
…After clicking I just wiped out that icing
.Next time I will try on my own…

You can find the recipe I referred, here..

Ingredients
(My 1 cup holds 240 ml of liquid)| Plain flour/Maida | 1 & 1/4 cup |
| Condensed milk | 1 cup minus 2 tblsp |
| Butter or Oil(I used sunflower oil) | 1/2 cup |
| Orange juice | 1/2 cup |
| Powdered sugar | 3 tblsp |
| Baking powder | 1 tsp |
| Baking soda | 1/2 tsp |
| Orange zest | 1/2 tsp |
| Lemon Juice | 1 tsp |
| Vanilla essence | 1 tsp |
Method:
- Pre heat the oven to 1800 C. Sieve flour, baking powder, baking soda two times to ensure even mixing.

- Mix well the condensed milk, orange juice, oil(or softened butter),sugar, vanilla essence, lemon juice with a whisk. Look who is helping me …

- Take the sieved flour in a bowl and make a dent, pour the mixed liquid in the dent and mix well without any lumps, using the whisk.

- Grate some orange peel in the batter and give it a mix.(orange zest)

- Grease a baking pan, with butter and dust with some flour. Pour the prepared batter in the pan. Tap the pan gently once or twice to remove any big air bubbles.

- Bake it to 30 minutes or until the toothpick inserted comes out clean.

- Let it cool down for 5 minutes and then invert the cake over an wire rack and let it cool.

ReplyDeleteHi Raji this is the third recipe trying out from ur blog. thank you
ReplyDeletebaked it yesterday.
but somehow, the top of my cake did nt turn as brown like urs.
what could be the reason,.. I bake in MW convection mode.
also I ran short of orange juice so I added orange flavoured tang to it.
Hi Mitha,
ReplyDeleteWhen you add tang instead of orange juice, did you made juice out of it and added or just added the powder? I too bake in MW convection mode, so I am not sure what could be the reason. But few things to keep in mind :Make sure you donot open the oven in between the baking time and also make sure you preheated the oven to the told temperature... Hope it helps when you bake next time..
Hi Raji
ReplyDeleteI added less than one half cup of orange juice and the rest of the cup added tang (in juice form).
and I did nt open the door in between. I just opened it only 5 minutes before the prescribed time.
that too just for the covering it with a butter paper.
by the way I preheated my oven for 10 minutes
is that fine or do i have to preheat for longer time ?
Mitha, for preheating the oven for baking any cake, say if the cake needs to be baked at 180degree in this case, you need to set 180 degrees and start the oven, you will be seeing a "P" sign in the display. You need to wait until the oven reaches that 180degrees. You will know this because the oven will beep when it finishes (attains the temperature). In my oven this is the case and the "P" sign starts blinking after this. I am not sure what is the procedure for your model. You may refer your oven manual for the preheating process. Do write to me if you have any further doubts regarding this...
ReplyDeleteThanks Raji, Am using samsung MW convection 30 litres one.
ReplyDeleteU r true , I should ve refered the manual.
I re read the manual for sure..
by the way am gonna try out pizza cups from ur menu !!
That's one surefire sweet and sour combination cake. I love the looks of it, it's alluring.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteHave been visiting your lovely blog for the last one month. Yesterday I tried the orange cake, and within minutes it disappeared! both my son and husband didn't bother to leave even a tiny crumb for me to taste. But seeing them enjoy it so much made the effort worthwhile. Thanks for sharing your great recipes.
Excellent Cake. I tried this yesterday and it was extremely tasty and everyone at home loved it (its empty today) :)
ReplyDeleteMy only problem was the cake started to sink in the middle. Not sure why that happened.
looks good, came across ur site recently. will try this cake for my friends surprise bday party. can u pls confirm me whether did u use store bought prange juice or freshly squeezed oranges. pls let me know
ReplyDeleteI used fresh juice, let me know h ow it turned out

ReplyDeleteHi, am new to ur blog, i tried ur eggless orange cake, nd it came out very well :-) thx kalyani
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI tried this recipe of urs yesterday.. After the prescribed time, when i took the cake out, it broke (however u call) in the middle. cake was super soft like how a sponge cake from a nearby bakery shop would be. Tasted Yummm!!
Will it be due to uneven batter or do u reckon any thing? I used butter instead of oil and followed the recipe pucca.
Thanks for the recipe.. Tasted yumm.. Loved it to the core.
Cheers
jaisheila
Hi,
ReplyDeletePlease give me a substitute for condensed milk. I want to try this cake!!
U can use milk and increase sugar quantity, not sure about the measures though
