beetroot+halwa_recipe
The first time I tried beetroot halwa, it was total disaster, I ended up in making burfi, instead halwa. Then after having that as dessert at my SIL’s place and another friend’s place, when I asked for recipe, they said its same as we do carrot halwa. From then I wanted to try it out and now I got the perfect chance to try it out,for the even I host – Celebrate sweets- with fruits & veggies. Do send in your recipes,if you have any!

And as I said I followed the same recipe as I do carrot halwa. Only thing is I increased the sugar quantity a bit more. Otherwise the same. Unlike carrot halwa, this give more servings. My hubby and kiddo both are not fond of beetroot. That’s what it took so long for me to try this.

Beetroot halwa recipe

Recipe Cuisine: Indian  |  Recipe Category: Sweet
Prep Time: 15 mins    |  Cook time: 20 mins    Serves: 4

Ingredients

Beetroot,grated  3  cups
Milk  2  cups
Sugar  1 &1/4 cup
Ghee  3  tblsp
cardamom/elachi powder  A pinch
Cashew  4 – 5 nos
Pistachios(optional)  4-5 nos

Method

  1. Take a heavy bottomed pan(I used my small cooker) and fry the grated beetroot for 3-4 minutes. Add milk and bring to boil.
  2. bt1
  3. Cook until the mixture gets thickened in medium flame and then add sugar. Mix well.
  4. bt2
  5. Cook until the mixture is glossy and add ghee. Continue frying until it starts leaving the sides. Transfer to serving plate and garnish with nuts fried in ghee.
  6. bt3
Notes
  • Do not add more sugar than mentioned as it will turn the halwa to burfi.
  • After cooling down, halwa will get more thickened, so switch off the flame accordingly.

Serve hot or chilled – as dessert!
