THENGAI SADAM / COCONUT RICE

My brother is a big fan of coconut rice that my mom makes, I too just love it. Its very flavourful and simple to make too. My mom adds soaked and then fried urad dal to this rice, which makes it protein rich and flavourful too. Always the roasted urad dal and coconut is a flavourful combo, like in coconut thogayal.

SPICY VEGETABLE PULAO

We call this “Vegetable Biryani” in our home. As far as I know, my mom makes rarely biryani and my mom in law never makes biryani! They dont use cinnamon, cloves, fennel, bay leaves in their cooking. Till now my MIL hates those masalas… But after I came here to SG I started experimenting and started using these masalas and my kid loves it! My kid started eating biryani at the age of 2 and he used to eat only biryani most of the days that time!! I too am used in handling all these masalas now a days …

CORN ROLLS

I liked this Corn Rolls Recipe when I saw in the cookbook I borrowed from library. The recipe needed ‘cream style corn’,which I was hearing for the first time. Then bought that too and tried immediately … Great snack for kids in the evening.

CORN KEBAB / SEEKH KABAB

After trying Gulnar seekh kebab, this is my second kind of kebab attempt at home. As my hubby is very fond of kebabs, I really want to try different kinds of kebab. This is a recipe I took from Nita Mehta’s book like my last kebab recipe. Just did few changes to suit our taste. Very simple, I have made it in combination oven, even if you don’t have oven, you can try grilling in pan or just deep fry or shallow fry them as the original recipe calls for.

CHETTINAD VELLAI PANIYARAM WITH TOMATO CHUTNEY

Chettinad vellai paniyaram with chutney     I have always been fascinated by the scene in the film ‘Roja’ in which Aravinda Swamy’s Big Grin Boss says ‘Vellai Paniyaram…’ HappyWe make these paniyarams mostly in our home. We have paniyaram as dinner in my mom’s place, but after marriage, in my in-law’s place its not considered as a dinner dish. Its rather ok for evening snack. So we rarely make. Same with my hubby.

PANEER PAKORA & TOMATO JUICE

paneer-pakora-recipe
I never made this until I tried this at restaurants… They give softest paneer pakoras…When we want to quench our sudden craving for North Indian food,we go to a ‘walk-able’ restaurant near by- Mumtaz Mahal at Downtown east. My kids favourite is always Gobi Manchurian there. So we order that for him and for ourselves we order either Paneer Pakoras or Paneer tikka . My hubby though he doest like paneer in gravies, he loves starters using paneer…
