Avocado is introduced to me by a friend of mine here in Singapore. She had made avocado milkshake. But I was bit hesitant to taste. But so many years after that, now again Anu (friend through blogger) asked me to try out the fruit. She just pushed me to try her avocado spinach pasta and told we can even make this dip. So I searched in Tastespotting for the recipe and referred few to make this. I opted for chunky version as I love it this way. You can make the same by grinding the avocado smoothly.
This is a healthy alternative dip recipe for other cheesy rich dips. Avocado gives a rich texture in this. I tried to make it more like a salsa dip ;) Not a traditional recipe, but my own version of avocado dip – Guacamole. So simple recipe, with few ingredients.

Guacamole recipe

Recipe Cuisine: Continental  |  Recipe Category: Side dish
Prep Time15 mins     |  Cook time: 0 mins     Serves: 2

Ripe avocado - 1

Onion - 1/2

Tomato - 1

Coriander leaves - 2 tblsp

Lemon - 1

Green chilli - 2

Salt - to taste

  1. Cut the avocado into two halves and take out the seeds.Scoop the pulp with spoon.
  2. 1-gucamole
  3. Mean while, you can chop finely onion, tomato, coriander leaves and green chillies. Mash the avocado roughly.
  4. 2-gucamole
  5. Mix everything together with a fork and add lime/lemon juice, salt to it and mix well.
  6. 3-guca

  • I used a fork to mash the avocado for getting a rough texture, you can grind the avocado smoothly for more creamier texture.
  • To make it indianinzed, you can add chaat masala in it ;)
  • Choose avocado that has black skin, which means its ripe. If you get black spotted ones, then if you keep it for 2-3 days it would turn black skinned.

We had it with tostitos. You can serve it with any chips, tortilla chips, nachoas … Yummy and healthy!

  29. Hi Aparna,

Thanks for your information :) Appreciate it!

  30. This is tempting! No doubt about it...gonna try the dip! :)

  31. Raks, its used so much here in US. To open an Avacado, you just cut around the avocado seed, twist the two halves and it opens. Then you lightly put the knife on the seed and twist it, it comes out. Google this for the technique

  32. I learnt this recipe from my daughter and she made this for me one day. nicely done

  33. Raks, I just went through your 'about me' page. Did not expect a photograph of you in that page! You look very humble!

"Some times, we try a dish once and it comes out nice. Then forget for a while and if we want to try again, we wont be able to recollect exactly what we did last time." - yeah these lines are very true!

  34. Beautiful pics Raks! Nice recipe too!!!

  35. Tried this - turned out very colorful. Thanks.
Any suggestions to knock off the mild bitterness of avocado? A sprinkle of sugar, or maybe a more healthier option of shavings of jaggery at the end?

    1. Lemon and chilli can be adjusted to avoid the bitterness. The key is to balance lemon chilli salt and avocado

  36. Looks Yum! Will try it.
What else can i pair it with besides chips/tortillas?
Btw, huge fan of your blog.! Your recipes have made my married life simpler!! :)
I live in Singapore too. :)
