sweet mixture recipe
Potato is grated, deep fried and mixed with dry fruits and nuts, coated with sugar to make this exotic mixture. I am a big fan of sweet mixture from my childhood, from the very first time my dad got this for us. My dad always buy mixture for snack very often. I pick and eat the ingredients in the mixture separately and pass my time. I have posted spicy mixture recipe already. And for past two years, I wanted to try this mixture for Diwali too. But had no clue where to start. Saw this potato sweet mixture in Instagram last month in my feed from a sweet shop and decided to try. So got an idea from here and tried my own version. Turned out really good, so bookmark this for your Diwali to try list Winking.

Sweet mixture recipe

Potato - 2

Almond - 8

Cashew nut - 8

Raisin - 4 tbsp

Ground nut - 3 tbsp

Powdered sugar - 3- 4 tbsp

Oil - To deep fry


  1. Peel and grate potato using a grater. Wash it minimum 3 to 4 times in ice cold water to remove the excess starch. Keep immersed in cold water until use.
  2. 1-wash
  3. I halved the almonds into two, you can add whole or chop as per your wish. Deep fry almonds, cashews, groundnut until golden. Fry raisin until it blows up. Keep aside in kitchen towel. You can fry in oil or in ghee too as per your wish. Deep fry grated potatoes until crisp in medium flame. Turn gently in between to ensure even cooking.
  4. 2-fry
  5. Drain in paper towel. Add the fried nuts to this potato.
  6. 3-mix
  7. Add powdered sugar and toss well to coat evenly.
  8. 4-mix


    • I used two large potatoes. Wash it well, do not skip it. Otherwise it may get too browned. It depends on potato variety too. Some potatoes may not turn golden, it will be perfect white.
    • You can add peeled groundnut too.
    • Do not add powdered sugar over too hot potato.

Sweet mixture stays crisp as such in airtight container for 2 days. You can also refrigerate it. Its really flavourful and delicious! Won’t it be? Deep fried, potato and sugar along with all those nuts?? Big Grin

  3. Deepa, I got from fair price. Granola washed potatoes. But it does browns easily. I have 2-3 varieties, all browns very easily. So wash it in cold water well to reduce the effect at least.

    You mentioned that grated potatoes should remain in cold water until use. Don't the hot oil splash when we try to fry the soaking wet grated potatoes? Thanks in advance.


    1. Since we wash in cold water, it wont retain much water as you think and wont splash dont worry. You can see my video if in doubt :)
