Microwave vanilla cake with tutti frutti
Easy and simple microwave single serving vanilla cake with tutti frutti  in one minute. Yes! You heard it right, one minute for single serving!! You can make it as mug cake too. I have been thinking to post this for long time, almost 2 years. I got tutti frutti during Christmas. Used little for maida cake and thought I should make this one.

I have made this few times couple of years back for Aj, since Aj is allergic to cocoa, he will ask for this one when I make chocolate cake. Today also he happily finished this one. You can make this for yourself when you are craving for quick dessert, or make it for your kid hungry back from school.

Corn cheese balls recipe

Corn and cheese with potato is a perfect combo and with added simple ingredients, this is a great kid’s snack recipe also party please. We had this only once at cream centre. It was a get together and I tasted only one but was really delicious. After that I have attempted once with a complicated recipe and did not turn out well. This time I tried with this recipe and kept it simple with minimum ingredients. It turned out tasty, of course can it go wrong?

Paneer mirch masala recipe

Paneer cubes in a spicy yet rich gravy with bhavnagri chillies and capsicum. The chillies and capsicum gives the masala spice as well as an unique flavour. It’s been a while since I posted paneer recipes in Rakskitchen. So thought of posting something and paneer mirch masala came to mind. I had this in Raj restaurant in Singapore. I kept my onion tomato base and with slight variations, made this gravy. It came out delicious and Aj loved it with pulao. I had with coriander paratha and loved it too. So give paneer butter masala a break and try this one for a change😊.

Ragi adai with drumstick leaves

Ragi also known as finger millet adai – Kezhvaragu adai with drumstick leaves. With full video and step by step pictures.
This is my long time wish to try. I always make murungai keerai adai by adding murungai keerai to the adai batter. Usually the drumstick leaves we buy in mustafa will be too much for sambar or kootu for 3 of us. So reserve little after cooking something and make adai. This time also I had a cup of drumstick leaves. So I thought I will try adding it to ragi adai. It was very flavorful along with ragi and I liked it. It’s very simple to make as well as a healthy one. I already have ragi adai recipe in my blog. So first I was thinking if I have to post, but thought of making new post with full video of ragi adai. So new one.

Chocolate cups - How to make edible chocolate cups

Making edible chocolate cups is really easy when you follow the steps. With few simple ingredients, you can make this easy dessert and impress your valentine this year. My friend Sangeeta sent me a video last year itself to try. I thought it will be very tricky and difficult and never thought to try it out. But after thinking these many days, I thought why not give it a try. And when I was thinking what to post for this Valentines day, I thought I will try this one and post it as Valentines day special recipe. Don’t panic and avoid trying this dessert. I too was afraid, but believe it, it’s really easy and you can make this with less effort. But looks and sounds exotic right?
I am making fresh cream too for the first time and really confident now to try other recipes with fresh cream now. So if you get the ingredients, this is a must try recipe. You can fill this with chocolate mousse or even ice cream.

Akki roti recipe (With dill) | Gluten free roti

Akki roti recipe
Akki roti is a gluten free roti made with raw rice flour. Ingredients like dill, coriander leaves, onion and cumin seeds with green chilli, makes this roti really flavourful. There are many variations in this roti. But since I have not tasted it before, I adapted a simple recipe from this post. We make a plain rice roti with rice batter that is ground fresh and wet. We call it milagu keeraga adai. It has totally different flavour and taste. I have posted that recipe by trying it with millet. But this one is very famous in South India, I have heard through few friends. I wanted to try with dill leaves and got dill leaves last week, but since long weekend here, I took a bit of time to try. It was really tasty with these leaves. You can add various other ingredients in this roti like curry leaves, chana dal, carrot etc, but I made it simple this time. You can add slightly more coconut also.

Pizza sandwich recipe | Easy kids lunch box ideas

Bread pizza made in slightly different method will give you these perfect kids lunch box idea. I have been making this for years now, but few days back when I saw  buzzfeed video on making grilled pizza sandwich, I decided to post here in my blog too. Few of Aj’s friends love this and I always pack extra for them when I pack this for Aj’s lunch box. Easy to us to make and kids also love this. The stuffing inside can be varied according to your kid’s preference.
Aj always prefer these kind of tiffin items for lunch box. It is easy for him to finish fast and play at the lunch time. When I was a kid, lunch will always be rice. I remember my parents carry lunch box to our school for me and my brother. They never wanted us to eat packed lunch box that is not hot. Until I was in nursery, my mom will carry lunch for me and my brother. I wonder how she managed, being in a joint family, among all her daily chores and after cooking, without any tiredness she used to carry lunch for us in the hot sun and walk few Kms. After we went to high school, it was my dad who bring lunch for us in cycle. Never realised how lucky we were and how much even small things matter to them. Later when we grew up, we used to go home and have lunch. Aj also like hot food, but he is not ready to even carry an extra lunch bag, if I think I should pack his lunch in hot box.

Vazhaipoo paruppu usili recipe

Vazhaipoo paruppu usili
Paruppu usili with kadalai paruppu and vazhaipoo. When we have vazhaipoo less than needed, but have to make it more, then usili is best way to add volume. I have posted beans paruppu usili, the method is different in that, by steaming first and then crumble to add it along the veggies. When my MIL was here, she told we can make in kadai itself. I have heard cooking dal in kadai itself takes long time and needs more oil. But when you make in less quantity, this is best and quick way to make. I have never tried this before, so when I made last month, it was so easy and I did not add much oil too. For me this was perfect to make, not too much dal, just right for my family. So, when you too want to add less dal and make usili, you can try this way.


Vazhaipoo paruppu usili recipe

Banana flower /Vazhaipoo – 1

Chana dal – 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup

Asafoetida – 1 pinch

sambar powder – 1 & 1/2 tsp

Turmeric – 1/4 tsp

Coconut, grated – 1/4 cup

Salt – As needed

Oil – 1 tbsp

To temper

Oil – 1 tsp

Mustard – 3/4 tsp

Urad dal – 1 tsp

Curry leaves – 1 sprig


  1. Soak chana dal for 3 hrs. Before you touch the flower for cleaning,either use gloves or apply sesame oil on both of your hands thoroughly. This prevents your fingers and nails turning black and ugly! Separate the edible flower part by removing the petals one bye one.
  2. Vazhaipoo the florets behind the petals
  3. Hold a bunch and remove the two parts of the flower that is shown in the picture,they tend to not cook,so we remove it before cooking. Towards the middle part,they will be so tender,so no need to remove that,if you feel its tender.
  4. Hold bunch remove the unwanted parts
  5. Once you are done cleaning the florets, chop them finely and immerse and keep in water mixed with sour buttermilk/or curd,to reduce the blackening effect. Drain the soaked chana dal completely.
  6. 3-soak
  7. Transfer to the mixer with salt and asafoetida.  Grind coarsely.
  8. 4-grind
  9. In a kadai, add 2 tsp of oil and transfer the ground paste to it. Stir fry well. Initially it will be sticky, but as it gets cooked, it will get separated itself.
  10. 5-fry
  11. Add oil in between and keep frying. Once its cooked, it will resemble a crumble. Transfer to a bowl.
  12. 6-cooked
  13. Temper with mustard, urad dal and curry leaves in oil. Squeeze the excess water well from chopped banana blossom and add it to the kadai. Add sambar powder, turmeric and salt.
  14. 7-temper
  15. Mix well and cook covered in medium flame for 4 minutes or until done. Once cooked, make sure its, not watery. Stir for a minute in high flame if its watery.
  16. 8-cook
  17. Add cooked dal and grated coconut. Mix well.
  18. 9-ready


    • I used 1/2 cup dal, but last time used only 1/4 cup of chana dal. It was perfect for us and easy to prepare too. So add chana dal as needed.
    • Make sure you add salt carefully, as we add both in dal and the banana flower.
    • I have used sambar powder here while cooking the flower, you can also add red chillies and jeera while grinding the dal.
    • You can also add one onion after tadka and fry till transparent before adding the banana flower.
Serve as an accompaniment for rice. Best with mor kuzhambu.
