Red capsicum soup recipe, red bell pepper soup

How to make red capsicum soup
An easy red bell pepper also known as red capsicum soup with tomato, onion and garlic as main ingredients. Perfect for dinner with a bread toast. I make soup at times for dinner when I want to cut down carbs. Mostly it would be tomato soup or carrot soup. But wanted to try something different. Saw fresh and large red capsicum in Fairprice and thought I will try something with it and bought. This happens every time- that is, see fresh vegetables at the groceries, get excited and buy lot of those and dump in the fridge. But by the time I try, it will not be so fresh as I got.
So what I do is I make it the very next day as I buy. This applies to spinach, vazhaipoo (banana blossom), vazhai thandu (banana stem) and other rare things I buy. So made this soup today. I wanted to make it simple, so followed a simple method to make the soup. As I was making, the colour of the soup was so fascinating to me. The flavour pulled Aj to ask what was it. He had some with the bread toast.

7 cups burfi recipe, 7 cup cake, Easy Diwali recipes

7 cups burfi or 7 cup cake is an easy Diwali sweet recipe that even beginners in cooking can make. In this post, we will learn how to make this easy sweet with step by step pictures and full video. This has been my long time wish to try this easy sweet and asking my friends if they make. My MIL told this recipe luckily, 2 days back that she saw this in Jaya TV in cookery show by Mrs.Revathy Shanmugam mam. I know she is one of the very few whose recipes are genuine and  turn out perfect too. I know this sweet is very famous as it is easy to make and the recipe is also very simple to remember. But we have never made this at our home and this is the first time I am making and tasting too. While my MIL told the recipe during our Skype call, I am not sure if I noted down wrongly or what, but somehow I wrote the sugar ratio wrongly. And followed blindly the recipe, took video. But the result was a delicious halwa, not burfi. It was very flavourful and delicious. Only that instead burfi, it was halwa.

Then when I saw the recipe, the sugar quantity was too less for a burfi. So I added more and got the burfi right. So let's learn how to make 7 cups burfi! And now I know the name 7 cups is just for holding the 7 ingredients, not all the ingredient in same quantity.

Chandrakala recipe Chandrakala, suryakala sweet

Chandrakala is an Indian Diwali sweet recipe with maida and khoya as main ingredients. Learn how to make this sweet with step by step pictures and full video in this detailed post. I have heard about this sweet a lot but sadly never ever tasted even one in my life. But when I posted badusha in my blog, my mom told they make this chandrakala suryakala like how I have shaped my Badusha. Usually badusha is made just like doughnut shape. But I loved the method, so tried and posted that way and it is a super hit😊. I wanted to try chandrakala for a long time now, but never had an idea about the recipe. As I am a sincere follower of Sutralam suvaikalam show, I saw the video and got some idea. It’s said it is a North Indian sweet and south Indian sweet as well, not sure about the origin. But South Indian sweet stalls sure have this sweet. Chandrakala named after Half moon and suryakala, meaning Sun shaped.
Mainly after Diwali, this sweet is sold in the shops. Few elder relatives of mine say that, after Diwali is over, the about to spoil milk sweets, sweets are mixed in the stuffing and sold. Not sure if it is true though😋. Basically both have same stuffing I guess, but just the shape is different. But you can differentiate the stuffing if you want. I guess this is similar to gujiya and lavang latika as well. This tastes really yummy with khoya and nuts filling with flavour from saffron and cardamom. Lets learn how to make Chandrakala, suryakala sweet. Please watch the video for easy understanding.

Besan kachori recipe | Easy kachori recipe

I have tasted kachori (stuffed kachori) only once that too as a chaat. I love Raj kachori and it is different chaat recipe with some legumes and other chaat elements added to it. I wanted to try proper stuffed kachori and found this one in my handwritten cookbook mom gave. I tried once following that recipe before, but found oil was too much in the recipe. So I reduced and tried. It came out perfect. Stuffed kachori is can be had with some aloo bhaji, chole or even simply with green chutney. I have seen restaurants have kachori chaat, so you can try that too.

Check out my no onion no garlic raj kachori chaat recipe.

I have tried milk powder gulab jamun many times, but somehow felt something was missing in the recipe or at times the looks will not be as good as I expect. So kept postponing to blog. Few months back, a reader friend Arockia Mary Anita sent me this recipe from a magazine and asked me to try and post. I tried it with few changes,  and it turned out good. I had some Amulya that I had to use soon, so I made this milk powder jamun recipe for this Diwali 2016. Stay tuned for more exciting recipes!

Aloo bhujia recipe, Potato sev, Diwali snacks

Aloo bhujiya is a spicy snack made with chickpea flour and potato as main ingredients. Mint and ajwain are added for flavour. An addictive tea time snack, that both kids and your all family members would love to have. Haldiram’s aloo bhujiya used to be Aj’s favorite snack. As I have made potato murukku, I had an idea about this recipe that we can add potato and make sev. But the flavours and taste is totally different from the plain sev. I have made it mild spicy, but if you want you can adjust it as per your preference. I partially adapted the recipe from  supplementary book pazhamai, pudhumai diwali recipes.

Motichoor ladoo recipe, How to make perfect motichoor ladoo

Motichoor ladoo is an Indian sweet, different from boondi ladoo, because this is with tiny boondi and slightly different method of preparation and ingredients. In this post, you can learn how to make these tiny boondi with step by step pictures and video. I always wondered how they manage to get so much tiny boondis. I have searched a lot in blogs, websites but, found nothing which explains the trick of getting tiny boondi. I have seen another method in which they grind the regular boondi and make motichoor ladoo. I have been postponing to try this recipe as I did not want to try that way. I know there should be some technique to make tiny boondi. Once when I was making plain salt boondi for boondi raita, the batter became watery and I got really tiny boondis. But it was more like a mess, half of it were like sev.
I wanted to make video for my boondi ladoo post this year and also I am a big fan of boondi and ladoo, but never get to eat. I know  only if I can make myself I can eat it. So, when I went to chennai this year, I asked my MIL to buy and keep the boondi ladle. She too was sweet and thoughtful, bought and kept for me. Without this ladle I don’t think this recipe is possible. I remember my mom had two or three varieties of this boondi ladle which we call as Jalli karandi. One made of brass and other two made of iron. one of them is used to drain the boondis from oil. Other one to make boondi. When she used to make boondi or ladoo, my grandma will help or vise versa. I too have helped her when I have grown up. As she makes large quantity, another helping hand is a must to finish it fast.
Coming to today’s recipe, luckily saw few videos in which they show the technique, but was in doubt if it will turn out good, will it be possible for me and so on. It looked bit complicated, but somehow I was determined to try. I had plan to grind and do if it doesn’t turn out tiny, but wow, I pulled it off!🤗 I know many of you have been wanting to know how they make motichoor ladoo with tiny boondi, just like me. Finally the search has come to an end here! 😁 Impress everyone with this ladoo for this Diwali. No one will first believe that you made it, but make them believe, take a bow!

Rabri recipe, how to make rabri | Indian dessert

Rabri is a milk based dessert served as main or along with other  indian sweets. Just 3 main ingredients – milk, sugar and nuts. You can add flavour with cardamom, but as we keep boiling milk and reduce it, it turns slightly cream in colour and smells sweet. I have not tried rabri anywhere outside. Had first time when I made it for rasmalai. I made it with saffron, cardamom and all those things, but just with sugar, milk and nuts, it turns out great.
A rich dessert and can be served warm or cold. I like  it always cold, but certain other sweets like Jalebi, malpua and gulab jamun goes well with warm rabri. With Diwali nearing, I am sure this will be useful for many.

Rabri recipe

Recipe Cuisine: Indian  |  Recipe Category: Dessert
Prep Time15 mins     |  Cook time: 30 mins     Serves: 6

Milk – 4 cups

Pistachios – 8

Sugar – 3 tbsp

How to prepare rabri

  1. Boil milk in a broad vessel. Add sugar to it and put the flame to medium or low. Keep boiling and scrap the sides and mix in the malai layer that forms on the top.
  2. 1-add-sugar
  3. Repeat this for every 2 minutes, In between add soaked, peeled and chopped pistachios.
  4. 2-add-pista
  5. Continue heating and repeat the same until the milk reduces and thickens. The colour of the milk will turn cream colour. As it cools down, the rabri will thicken, so switch off accordingly. Keep aside.
  6. 3-ready

Serve chillied as such or warm with gulab jamun, jalebi, malpua.

Murukku recipe-murukku recipes

Murukku recipe, murukku recipes, Diwali special murukku recipes, traditional and innovative south Indian murukku varieties. Thenkuzhal murukku, potato murukku, butter murukku, cashew murukku, kai murukku, mullu murukku, wheat flour murukku, tapioca murkku, pottukadalai murukku, puzhungarisi murkku, onion murukku, ring murukku. Click each picture given below for respective recipes with detailed instructions and step by step pictures and full videos too for some posts.
I am a big fan of snacks, especially different variety of murukku prepared at home. I love store bought murukku, it is totally different, yet the homemade murkku has unique flavour and taste and less oily. Especially the asafoetida flavour in murukku like thenkuzhal and certain other murukku. Out of all these, potato murukku, the first ever murkku I posted in my blog, is my favorite recipe that I learnt from my MIL, an easy and different recipe which I learnt after marriage. And the mullu murukku with coconut milk that amma makes is the one that is different one I like as it is sweet and salt.

Mom and MIL makes a murkku in padi quantity always big family and we all love snacking. Big drums, vaali (containers) will be filled with these snacks. These days since nuclear family, we just make with just 2 cups of flour maximum. That too mostly with store bought rice flours and lentil flours where as mom, MIL grinds either in mixer or in mills. Kudos to them, we can never match their patience and interest in terms of cooking .

Ennai kathirikai kuzhambu recipe | How to make ennai kathirikai kuzhambu

Ennai kathirikkai kuzhambu is a gravy in which brinjals are stuffed with flavourful fresh ground masalas and sauteed in lots of oil and when we make gravy (kuzhambu), until the oil oozes out. I have been looking for ennai kathirikkai kuzhambu recipe like this for long time. My mom makes a version, but we never use this much oil, and it’s more of a no onion no garlic pepper kuzhambu. I love it a lot, but wanted to try this version. My friend Sujithra who is a wonderful cook, shared me this recipe when I asked for. Since I am making this for first time, I had many doubts, which she explained me patiently. Thank you Suji, for being sweet as you always are. I was supposed to post this few days back. Just back from vacation and still the hangover is there😋.
I know Diwali is nearing, let me start my Diwali posts soon next week, stay tuned and browse my Diwali collections post until then.

Thengai dosai recipe | Easy south Indian breakfast

coconut dosa recipe
Rice and urad dal soaked and ground coarsely with chilli to a spicy dosa. Very easy and delicious too. I learnt this recipe from my friend Roopa who have shared besan chutney earlier. I just followed her recipe as she sent me and turned out really good. I could not stop eating this one and really loved this. Will make this often. Check out my chutney recipes.

Thengai dosai recipe

Recipe Cuisine: Indian  |  Recipe Category: Breakfast
Prep Time: 3 Hrs (soaking)   |  Cook time: 30 mins   Serves: 6

Raw rice (I used ponni) – 1 cup

Urad dal – 1/4 cup

Onion – 1

Red chilli – 6

Asafoetida – 1/4 tsp

Coconut, grated – 1/2 cup

Coriander leaves – 1/4 cup

Salt – as needed

  1. Wash and soak rice and urad dal together for 3 hours. First grind red chilli, asafoetida and salt together coarsely.
  2. Drain and add rice, dal to the mixer and grind to a coarse batter with coconut, little water.
  3. Adjust water consistency to thin and add finely chopped onion, coriander leaves. Mix well.
  4. Heat tawa and drizzle with little oil. Pour the thin batter with a ladle over the hot tawa, first as an outer ring and then fill it as shown in the picture. Cook each side for a minute or until golden in colour.

  • I added garlic as she told in the original recipe, but I felt as there is onion and asafoetida, it is enough for this dosa. Though I tried with garlic, my vote is without garlic. But if you want, you can add 3 flakes for this recipe.
  • Add enough oil while cooking, otherwise will turn out dry.
  • Should be made as soon as we grind, no need to ferment.
  • Red chillies can be added without being hesitant, it won't be spicy.

Serve hot with red chutney or any of your favorite chutney.
