Learn how to make schezwan fried in just three steps. No need to use any sauce or salt, perfect for bachelors and a quick lunch preparation.
I am great fan of indo chinese food next to south Indian and North Indian food. I need a change in my regular cooking once in a while, especially in weekends, want to make it simple and quick instead of spending too much time in the kitchen. Indo chinese are interesting and quick to prepare with burst of flavours.

When using Ching's secret you don't even need to worry about the measurements of the ingredients. Just three easy steps and follow the recipe, you are with a delicious outcome of Schezwan veg fried rice. This is available in Singapore Mustafa and everywhere in India.

Ching’s Secret Schezwan Fried Rice Masala - 1 Packet (15 gms)
Oil - 4 tbsp
Vegetables, mixed - 2 cups (Cabbage, carrot, capsicum, beans, onion)
Cooked rice - 6 cups
Spring onions - to garnish


  1. Heat oil in a wok and stir fry vegetables for 2-3 mins in high flame.
  2. Add cooked rice to the vegetables.
  3. Add Ching's secret schezwan fried rice masala in a sprinkled way. Toss well/ mix well for 2 mins.


  • The cooked rice works best if the grains are separate. If you have leftover rice, it is perfect, refrigerate before using in the recipe for best results.
  • Prepare the entire dish in high flame.
  • Do not alter the recipe for perfect outcome.

We can make popcorn at home easily if you get these popcorn kernels. Here in Singapore, I have seen these dry corn kernels in fairprice though was not interested in buying one. Got this long time back reading it as popcorn kernels in the pack and gave a try too. Was amazed how simple it is to prepare at home.
So if you too get dry corn kernels, do give it a try. Using virgin coconut oil is an excellent idea that I adapted from here. It smells awesome and not greasy at all. Adding butter is optional, you can just toss in some salt and have it for healthy version.

Maa inji thokku, is an south Indian accompaniment made with mango ginger, a variety of ginger which has mango flavour, looks like ginger. Even if you hate ginger, you will love mango ginger.
I love mango ginger and whenever I see in little India, I buy it and make the instant pickle version as it can be made in a jiffy, yet a burst of flavours.
When my in-laws were here, I  wanted some homemade pickle in stock and kept making simple pickles, thokku as my FIL likes homemade pickles for his curd rice. I wanted to post but could not find time, so again bought and made this earlier and laying in drafts. I thought scheduling this post as I am going on a short vacation to Dubai 💃
This thokku goes well with curd rice, rasam rice and idli, dosa, parathas too.

This paneer chilli recipe is very basic and easy method for those who are new to cooking, for bachelors, or after a tiresome day outside, still want to make something at home. No deep frying of paneer is required. Also you need not worry about the measurements of sauces, salt. Just follow this exact recipe and you will be able to pull off a delicious outcome.
I have used Ching's Paneer chilli masala in the recipe, which makes it this simple. It is easily available across India and in Singapore too, in Mustafa we get this.

Preparation of paneer chilli in three easy steps, perfect for bachelors, for those days when you don't feel like spending too much time in kitchen, or after a tiring outing.
Paneer chilli recipe


Paneer, cubed - 200 gms
Cubed vegetables (Onion, capsicum, carrot) - 2 cups
Green chilli, slit - 1
Chings paneer chilli masala - 1 packet
Water - 2 cups
Oil - 2 tbsp
Spring onion - To garnish


  1. Dissolve 1 packet of Chings paneer chilli masala in 2 cups of water, keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a kadai, add vegetables. Stir fry for 2 mins. Add paneer cubes and fry for one more minute.
  3. Add the dissolved paneer chilli masala water and mix. Bring to boil, continue for 2-3 mins. Garnish with spring onions.


  • Keep paneer immersed in hot water until use, for softer result.
  • Serve hot for best results.

How to prepare paneer chilli:

  1. Dissolve 1 packet of Chings paneer chilli masala in 2 cups of water, keep aside.

Dishwasher in Indian kitchen, is it useful or not?

Is a Dishwasher really useful in Indian kitchen? I have tried to share my experience about owning a dishwasher and how it is helpful for me.
I got my Dishwasher about 4 years ago and I keep thanking Vj, for that it is one of the best gift I got. I have to admit, I hate washing dishes always standing at the kitchen after every meal. After finishing all the works, after eating, all I want to do is sit for a while, not again do cleaning. As much as we like relaxing, we do hate vessels inside the sink. It always runs behind your mind and keeps one restless, that there is a pending work. I will feel like always washing dishes so much earlier before I got Dishwasher in my kitchen.
I am not trying to sell any products, just sharing my experience. I always wished my mom/ MIL have a dishwasher so that they could save some work! So are you the one who have a thought to buy a dishwasher but holding few doubts or if you are a one who don't want to stand long in the kitchen, hate washing vessels, you can consider buying one.

My family loves paneer a lot. I cook paneer once a week surely for Aj's lunch box, packing paneer butter masala for him. Other than that, mostly in weekends, we like to have paneer for snack. I make tikka or paneer pakora which is Aj's favorite. Paneer when in good quality is an excellent source of protein, that too for vegetarians. Aj doesn't consume curd or any other form of milk / other than his daily dose of complan. So if he ask for paneer snack, I make for him. He loves tikka with green chutney and even loves paneer cheela, paneer sandwich.

I have seen guava ice cream sprinkled with chilli powder in my Instagram feed several times. I wanted to try it out ever since I saw. Usually we get two varieties of guava here, one seedless variety, whiter pulp and another one is the pink guava with really deep pink juicy pulp and its with seeds. Though I love both, I prefer the pink guava as I love it's flavour and colour. I have both guavas as such or sprinkled with salt, chaat masala and red chilli powder. I have once tried juice with pink guava and it was super good. But avoid juice as I cannot drink without sugar, also lazy to handle all the mess.

Most of us have silver vessels or items in our home like plates, bowls, spoons, servewares, pooja items. It turns black, tarnish due to oxidation. Though we clean with other ways like using lemon juice and salt or by rubbing ash (viboothi), this method is so handy which I learnt way back from Shanthi's blog. This method is found everywhere in the internet ever since quick and short videos became famous (Ex.Nifty) There are many more methods like using tomato ketchup, toothpaste etc. But this is my go to way of cleaning my silver vessels and at times use for pooja items too.
The plain silver plates and tumblers goes in and comes out shiny like a magic in this method. The one with intricate works needs very little effort of scrubbing either with metal scrubber or a brush.
Just aluminium foil and cooking soda does the magic. Most of you know about this by now, but I am sharing for those who are not aware of this, including my co-sis who requested to share this method 😊. Stay tuned for recipe posts lined up.

Shakkar pare recipe, shakkar para

Shakkar pare is a mildly Indian sweet snack made with maida, sugar, butter as main ingredients. Learn how to prepare shakkar para with full video and step by step pictures.
As a south Indian, I used to eat mixture that has small squares of a mildly sweet 'biscuit' and wondered if anyone can make it at home. Used to think it is a baked item when I was not aware of what it is. Even before exploring the blogging world, I had no idea about it. Later I knew the small sweet squares are maida biscuits and even tried once. But without knowing proper method, I didn't get it right. Though there are few different methods and names, I loved this simple one, as the measurements were easy to remember. So followed the same and tried. It turned out really good. We all loved it.
With simply available ingredients in our kitchen, it turns out to be a great snack. Since today is Holi festival, thought of sharing this special recipe of shakkar pare. Sugar in this snack is supposed to be mild. You can add according to your preference, but note that adding more sugar makes shakkar pare harder. So you can add less, but not more in this recipe I have given. Check my other Holi recipes.
